the protector 1 Comic Book Review: The Protector #1

Allan Adams seems like an ordinary guy, boring some might think, seeing as he’s an insurance investigator, but don’t judge a book by its cover that quickly.  He’s seen the crime become worse and more violent and he’s had enough.  The Protector comes to life as he realises he has to do something to protect the citizens, because the law obviously doesn’t.  That realisation becomes obvious, especially when he walks onto a crime scene where a bank robbery had just taken place.  Here he meets police officer, Robert O’Reilly, who is also sick and tired of seeing the state of the city go under with crime and violence.  Enter The Avenger!

Like I said, don’t judge a book by its cover and at first glance you’ll immediately think this is a Superman rip-off, but it’s not.  It’s much better than Superman and to be honest a little darker too.  The storyline is that of a normal superhero story arc though, but if you read the introduction you’ll immediately see that creator and writer Chris R. Notarile was going for wholesome, true, old-school superhero comic book awesome when he wrote it.  In my personal opinion there’s nothing wrong with that at all, in fact, I feel it would make a great addition to any comic collection.

When we look at the brilliant artwork from artist Chris Notarile (that’s another Chris, by the way), we are presented with great cut-in scenes, awesome flashbacks and an all-American hero feel that does exactly what the script intended.

I think that this comic book is going to make it big.  Yeah, it may look a little Superman-ish at first, but maybe that’s what is needed in the market today?  We get an overload of new, modernised comics that has seemingly forgotten the roots of the comic world.  Sure, we might have gotten a little tired of the same-old superheroes, but the truth is, everyone likes a vigilante and everyone wants to believe in the possibility of some pure superhero that will save the day.  So, in my opinion we need more old-school superheroes, with values and who brings something wholesome to the table, just to give us something to reminisce about, if not anything else.  Also, I feel there’s going to be a whole interesting world that will be created through this series and I can’t wait to read all about the adventures that will unfold in Republic City!  In other words The Protector is going to do all of that and I for one cannot wait!

If you’re interested in getting familiarised with The Protector, don’t hesitate to click on the image.  It will take you straight to the site where you can purchase it.  Also, check out the trailer for the graphic novel, it looks fantastic!
