It’s been three months since the viral outbreak pretty much wiped out the human population. However, there are still survivors and although the flesh-eating living dead are still trying to get their rotting hands on them, survivors are trying to put up a fight for their lives. In the UK though, there is a band of soldiers and civilians who are still alive and kicking and these folks have all taken refuge at a rural military barracks. Life is tough and not at all the same as it was before the zombies came, but there’s hope when a message is received from a military base on the coast. This message of hope gives the survivors something to live for. Unfortunately, you’re only as strong as your weakest link and whatever they find may not necessarily be what they had expected…
World of the Dead: The Zombie Diaries 2 is a fun movie that one can watch when there’s nothing else to do, it doesn’t take a lot of brainpower and as with all zombie films, we have enough gore to keep the inner demons happy. We have strong acting, convincing characters, a more than sufficient twist on the usual zombie plot and great make-up. Frankly, it’s a good movie that really can hold its own in the world of zombie films. I wouldn’t necessarily say that it’s anywhere near as good as 28 Days Later, but it’s fun and has many redeeming qualities to it, regardless of what other critics say. On the other hand, I do understand why some people may dislike World of the Dead: The Zombie Diaries 2. Sadly, I’m also over the whole “found footage” genre and unfortunately this is one of those types of films. Granted, I’m not saying it’s at all bad, because it’s not, but at some point someone has to be original and not make a shaky movie. We’ve seen The Blair Witch Project, we’ve seen Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity and even Apollo 18, it’s been done and filmmakers need to realise, the fad has come to an end. That being said, it’s very unrealistic to make a zombie found footage film to begin with… I mean, if there are some crazy cannibalistic monsters heading my way, I’m going to drop the cam and run…
All those bad things aside though, I still feel that World of the Dead: The Zombie Diaries 2 is a very good zombie film if you can tolerate the camera and it does keep its predecessors’ ”feel” to it. Also, there were quite a few moments where your insides would kind of jump up, so the surprise factor is also there at times.
This is a tough call as to who would enjoy this movie, but, if you don’t mind a shaky cam and you liked all those other found footage type of movies, then great. Get your hands on World of the Dead: The Zombie Diaries 2. If you’re a die-hard zombie fan and you want to add another one to your collection, go ahead… it’s a good movie to watch when you have nothing else to do. However, if you don’t like shaky cams and you aren’t zombie crazy, I’d say skip it. It’s entirely up to you…
