STER-KINEKOR CINEMA NOUVEAU PRESENTS -
VINCENT WANTS TO SEA
It has been described by The Hollywood Reporter as “A sleeper hit”, it has won awards at the German film industry equivalent of the Oscars and has been voted audience favourite three times over and soon it will be screened exclusively in South Africa at Ster-Kinekor Cinema Nouveau. Directed by Ralf Huettner, Vincent Wants to Sea releases 13 July and is certainly one that South African audiences will not want to miss.
Lead actor Florian David Fitz won best actor for his portrayal of the defiant-but-shy hero Vincent. He also wrote the original script about a young man suffering from Tourette’s syndrome who is shipped off to an institution by his father after his mother passes. In due course, he escapes from the health care facility with his new friends Alexander (Johannes Allmayer) an easily disturbed obsessive-compulsive, and the pretty Marie (Karoline Herfurth), who suffers from Anorexia Nervousa. The three friends embark on a journey to the Italian coast so that Vincent can fulfil his mother’s last dying wish – to scatter her ashes in the ocean! In hot pursuit is their doctor (Katherine Muller-Elmau) and Vincent’s father (Heino Ferch) – a politician who has little understanding of or compassion for his son’s condition.
Winner of Best Actor and Best Picture at the 61st Annual German Film Academy Awards, Vincent Wants to Sea is a funny and heart-warming story of over-coming personal and interpersonal challenges, whilst embarking on a journey of self-discovery.
