Owen Montgomery is somewhat of a control freak, making lists, planning none stop and checking items off as he goes along. He always have a plan and he likes to stay on schedule. That is his world and he likes it that way. With the new bed and breakfast that he and his family are busy setting up in Boonsboro, he’s been perfecting his planning and scheduling to a T, until he once again sees the long time family friend, Avery MacTavish, that has her own pizza business across the street, of course. She was his first girlfriend back when they were kids and he was her first boyfriend… though time passes quickly, he never thought he’d see the day when they looked at one another intimately. Though, it did take a push from the resident ghost to do it, but now his plans and schedule seems slightly different. Will they eventually end up together, especially seeing as Avery is so stubborn and scared? Only time will tell…
The Last Boyfriend is Nora Roberts’ second novel in the proposed trilogy called The Inn Boonsboro Trilogy, and this romance is one to keep readers guessing as to whether or not Owen and Avery will get together and take that leap throughout. With some humorous twists and turns, some fun little sub-plots and referencing the first novel occasionally, Nora Roberts was able to create an enticing and lingering story that makes you want to find out about what will happen next. With supernatural anecdotes present as well, one cannot help but fall in love with the idea of love and all the various kinds of love, like lost love, found love, old love, new love and being in love… It’s a beautiful and fun and with an extract of Book 3 of The Inn Boonsboro Trilogy, called The Perfect Hope, readers can get an idea of what happens next!
Personally, I’ve never been a fan of Nora Roberts, not because I don’t think the woman’s got talent, but because usually I wouldn’t pick up a romance book in a shop. However, I may have clearly been judging a book by its cover when it came to Nora Roberts and apologise for my misjudgment. The fact is, it’s well-written, fun and frankly it’s got some sexy moments that doesn’t get smutty or leaves an unpleasant taste in your mouth. The Last Boyfriend is definitely a book I enjoyed and I would like to read the previous novel and the next one, for that matter.
To those who aren’t romance fans, you’ll be delightfully surprised at how easy you’ll get lost in The Last Boyfriend after you’ve pushed through the first chapter. I found that the first chapter was a little difficult to get through, but after that it was smooth sailing and pleasurable… and I’m not even a romance novel lover! So, if you’ve been searching for a book to keep you company on a lonely night, this is the one you can curl up with and if you’re looking for a substitute genre, one that will help you calm down a bit, well it seems that romance is the way to go.
The Last Boyfriend certainly got Nora Roberts a new fan in me and I’m sure those who takes the plunge into the unknown will feel the same way.
