Dredd has been making movie waves across the world ever since its initial release and boy were we in for a surprise! Of course, this remake has already been deemed better than the original film, Judge Dredd, starring Sylvester Stallone, which doesn’t say much for some. However, as far as I know, the action looks better and word is that the film is closer to the comics, so that’s a plus. DREDD COMES TO THE BIG SCREEN IN 3D WITH STER-KINEKOR
September 28th sees the release of the 3D action film DREDD at Ster-Kinekor theatres across South Africa. Directed by Pete Travis, this gripping film is a tribute to comic book heroes and puts Dredd on the big screen in 3D where he belongs!
DREDD is the tale of Judge Dredd, the most feared of elite Street Judges on the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilisation on Cursed Earth. Dredd has the power to enforce law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary.
The film fuses together the endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis. Described as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip, the pair brings Dredd to life.
The title was filmed entirely on location in South Africa and stars lead actor Karl Urban – a six-foot tall, gorgeous New Zealand born star. The heartthrob, who toured the country recently to promote DREDD, says he loves South Africa and looked very forward to returning as part of his whirlwind promotional tour after finishing the filming. In the film, he stars alongside Olivia Thirlby who plays the beautiful psychic rookie Cassandra Anderson.
DREDD will be shown in 3D at Ster-Kinekor cinemas and will transport audiences into Mega City One for a thrilling ride as Cassandra and Dredd try to rid the streets of a powerful new drug. When fearsome drug lord Ma-Ma unleashes her wrath, the Judges are in for an all-out war. Based on the character from the 2000AD comic book, this sci-fi action film speaks to die-hard comic lovers, action junkies and those who want to see Urban in action.
